Las Américas → Costa Adeje → La Caleta → Los Gigantes
A perfect first drive if you're staying in Las Americas — you follow the west coast away from the busy resort areas and discover a quieter side of Tenerife. Recommended stops: Playa del Duque, La Caleta fishing village, Playa San Juan and the Los Gigantes cliffs. Perfect for couples, sunset drives and photography. Local tip: go in the afternoon, enjoy the coast slowly and finish with sunset views towards La Gomera.
Las Américas → Arona → Vilaflor → Mount Teide
This is where having a car completely changes your Tenerife holiday — within one journey you move from beaches to Canarian villages, pine forests and volcanic landscapes. Recommended stops: Arona village, Vilaflor, the Teide viewpoints and Roques de Garcia. Perfect for first-time visitors, scenery and unforgettable photos. Local tip: do this route early — the morning light on the volcanic landscape is incredible and parking around the main viewpoints is easier. Bring a jacket too; leaving Las Americas in shorts doesn't mean Teide feels the same.
Las Américas → El Médano → La Tejita → Los Abrigos
A great route when you want a different Tenerife without spending the whole day driving. Recommended stops: El Medano beach, Montana Roja, Playa La Tejita and Los Abrigos harbour. Perfect for escaping busy areas, seafood and ocean views. Local tip: Los Abrigos is a lovely evening stop — many visitors staying in Las Americas never discover this side of the south.
Local's Pick: Diego Hernández Beach
A completely different world only a short drive from Las Americas. While most visitors stay around the main resort beaches, Playa Diego Hernandez shows a quieter, more natural side of Tenerife — turquoise water, a natural coastline, a peaceful atmosphere and amazing sunset colours. It's not a commercial beach with rows of restaurants, and that's exactly the charm. Sometimes the best memories come from leaving the main tourist streets behind.

Before You Drive Away
- The TF-1 motorway is very close and gives fast access to Tenerife South Airport, Teide routes and the rest of the island.
- Around the main nightlife areas, drive slowly in the evenings — there are a lot of pedestrians, taxis and visitors walking between restaurants and bars.
- Parking near the beachfront is usually easier in the morning; evenings can get busier around the restaurants.
- Don't judge Tenerife only from Las Américas — the island changes completely once you drive 30–60 minutes away.
- Mountain roads towards Teide and Masca are beautiful but slower than they look on a map.
- If planning a Teide day trip, leave with enough fuel and water — services become limited once you enter the higher mountain areas.
